Table 4 records the number of prisoners taken each month over a year at each operational police station in Manchester in 1897-8. Its purpose was to inform the Watch Committee as to the operational effectiveness of each station. The Table formed part of the review of the Manchester police commenced on the appointment of the Chief Constable Peacock.

The divisional headquarters were mainly the busiest stations and are highlighted in bold. The only exception being that of the B Division where Willert Street PS Collyhurst has less prisoners than its sub-station at Derby Street, Strangeways nearby. One reason for this could have been Willert Street’s distance from the city centre and the poorer housing nearer to Derby Street PS.
